The city is a place of intrigues and action. It is ruled by disorder, noise and movement but one could observe moments of calm, emptiness and solitude. Using the city as a topic means working on space and its representation. It is also realising that architecture is what defines the framework of our lives and gives a place its identity.
The movies in general and more specifically films like Jacques Tati’s “Playtime” or Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” have all influenced my way of treating, building and giving a meaning to my pictures. They represent scenes set in an urban landscape to which other elements and stories are superimposed or added
This choice of using bits and images from different environments to create my own paintings is a way of questioning the status of images today, how they are used, what meaning they have or what meaning they could be given?
